Every night I have an overwhelming urge to get up (multiple times throughout the night) and eat! I am not talking about a snack but things like 3 packages of Pop Tarts, box of Nilla Wafers, half a box of Oreos. . . unhealthy things like that, and in excessive amounts. I am aware I am doing this but can not resist the urge to do it. I have tried not buying these things, however I still find something to eat (1/4+ jar peanut butter. . . 5 granola bars).
During the day I eat pretty healthy and often easily turn down foods that are bad for me. If I do indulge in a treat during the day they are normal portions. I don't understand why I can be disciplined during the day only to wind up getting up often throughout the night and eat.
I'm often very tired during the day due to all the time at night I spend eating (not to mention sick to my stomach from what I ate that night). I have seen my primary doctor and my blood work is normal. We have tried Ambien and Restril to help with sleep. I have tried natural sleeping supplements, and Tylenol PM, yet I still wake up and EAT!
I have been told that if I wanted to quit I would. However, every morning I wake up disappointed with myself and every night before I go to bed I tell myself I am NOT going to get up. What can I do to stop this night-time eating?
