I was just told by my doctor that I had IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). Can someone help me understand a little about what is IBS? Is there any way to treat it, besides medication?

My husband is a police detective, and in the last three months, he has been involved in investigating three brutal murders. The things he sees and deals with all day long are gruesome and cruel and I have noticed some changes in him lately. What are some of the symptoms that I should watch out for if I believe he may be suffering from PTSD?

Every night I have an overwhelming urge to get up (multiple times throughout the night) and eat! I am not talking about a snack but things like 3 packages of Pop Tarts, box of Nilla Wafers, half a box of Oreos. . . unhealthy things like that, and in excessive amounts. I am aware I am doing this but can not resist the urge to do it. I have tried not buying these things, however I still find something to eat (1/4+ jar peanut butter. . . 5 granola bars).
During the day I eat pretty healthy and often easily turn down foods that are bad for me. If I do indulge in a treat during the day they are normal portions. I don't understand why I can be disciplined during the day only to wind up getting up often throughout the night and eat.
I'm often very tired during the day due to all the time at night I spend eating (not to mention sick to my stomach from what I ate that night). I have seen my primary doctor and my blood work is normal. We have tried Ambien and Restril to help with sleep. I have tried natural sleeping supplements, and Tylenol PM, yet I still wake up and EAT!
I have been told that if I wanted to quit I would. However, every morning I wake up disappointed with myself and every night before I go to bed I tell myself I am NOT going to get up. What can I do to stop this night-time eating?

I am very concerned about my 15-year-old daughter's health. She looks extremely skinny - almost sickly - to me. When I ask her about her eating habits, she becomes very defensive. What signs do I look for or what steps should I take if I am worried about her having an eating disorder?

I am very anxious about my weight. I have gained 15 pounds in the last year. I starve and then I eat like crazy--I love cake and cookies so I avoid them until I can't stand it and then I pig out. What do you suggest?
